Uchishiba shows his tomoe nage variation

As we saw him spectacularly pull off this throw in his recent BJJ match, the tomoe nage is, without a doubt, Uchishiba's bread and butter.

Uchishiba stresses that he executes the tomoe nage after looking for good timing while on the move. He says this sutemi waza requires three steps to be completed. Mentally counting "one," he breaks the uke's posture by stepping backwards. Then counting "two," he lifts his both hands to pull him upward. When he counts "three," he quickly gets under the uke and kicks the right side of his obi without landing his right foot on the tatami.

After falling on his back, Uchishiba steers his opponent by controlling his sleeve in a wide circular motion toward his left leg. The tsurite should also be moved the same way for you to throw him in the direction of your choice, he says.
