Working out functionally

This page is from a monthly judo magazine. I took the liberty of taking a picture of what looked like useful information for judoka of any level. The page is titled, " This month's training a la Asahi Dojo". Asahi Dojo probably has one of the best track records in teaching judo to children in Japan. Some of us remember Ryunosuke Haga, an Olympic bronze medalist who represented Japan in the -100kg category at the 2016 Rio, trained at the dojo in Yokohama, Kanagawa, when he was in elementary and junior high schools.

To make a long story short, let me explain what the above photos are all about. Dai Asahi, the dojo owner, says that this workout helps increase your throwing power. Here are the steps to doing the exercise.

1) Lie prone on the floor on your elbows and toes.

2) Raise your left arm high while raising your right foot off the floor.

3) Return to the original position, then raise your right arm high while lifting your left foot off the floor.

4) Repeat.

I tried the movement myself, and it was not as intense as Mr. Asashi claimed it to be.
But to each his own. You be the judge.
